When I first booked this show I worried it was too late in September and we might freeze in our bellydance costumes... It ended up being a super-unseasonably HOT day, hotter than any summer day, people were passing out, getting heat stroke, etc. Me, Natalie Zara, and my awesome student troupe, Banat El Sharq soldiered on and performed a 30 minute set in the scorching heat! We had never sweat so much, but it was a fun day!!!
My beautiful troupes, CAIRO CABARET and BANAT EL SHARQ performed a set at the super-fun Dragon Boat Festival at Marilyn Bell Park on Toronto's waterfront with guest artist Lyla and Cairo Cabaret also doing a Brazilian Samba piece!
Mayada's Student Troupe, Banat El Sharq performed at Riverdale Park, then TropiCaliente and Mayada's Latin dance students performed at Yonge-Dundas Square for Canada Day!
Make sure not to miss out on our Studio Showcase this Saturday including lots of bellydance, as well as Latin, Brazilian, Folkloric and Celtic Dance. Afterwards we will be celebrating nine years at this location and saying goodbye as we are closing our doors on College on July 31st. I hope to see all friends, current students, past students, and future students this Saturday, June 27th to give Fierce College Street one heck of a send-off!

Last night we had our big studio showcase! It's always a super-exciting event where all my students get to show off what they've been working on in classes! There were bellydance, celtic, and latin dance classes, troupes, and soloists, as well as some very special guest soloists and groups! DJ Fuzzboy kept the beats flowing, the audience was warm and supportive, and all the dancers sparkled on stage! It's always awesome for me to see all my students working together, helping each other cram-practise before the show, dealing with last-minute costume alterations, supporting one another through pre-show jitters, and then putting on such a beautiful show! Thanks guys!
As most of you know, as well as a bellydancer I am also totally in love with fitness, the gym, working out, and helping others get fit and feel great! I have also enjoyed competing in fitness competitions almost every year to keep me motivated with all my fitness goals! I always love it when my dance and fitness worlds collide, so when an association I've competed and volunteered with lots - IDFA asked if my troupe would be the opening act for their big world championships competition, I was totally excited! I decided to debut a brand new bellydance-samba piece so it would be super-exciting with candelabras, veils, and samba! I also finally choreographed to a song I've loved for quite some time, but felt it was too beautiful to just do anything to... Yearning by Raul Ferrando. I've seen tons of dancers renditions of this piece and knew if I were to do something to this piece it would have to be really different and beautiful... then one day when I was thinking about what we would do at this show, this candelabra/veil idea came to me - it was perfect with the slow snake-y sections and then the big grand sections! Me and my dancers had an awesome time backstage and on stage, plus I'm totally inspired by all the fit bods and transformation stories!
